Lorri Horn
Educator, writer, curriculum builder, and creator of Dewey Fairchild’s increasingly complicated problem-solving operation.
Lorri Horn is an educator and the author of the Dewey Fairchild Problem Solver middle-grade series. The first book earned a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and was included among its Best Middle-Grade Books of 2017.
Her source materials show how closely the books and her teaching background overlap. The Book 1 curriculum guide turns Dewey’s cases into work with point of view, characterization, figurative language, research, debate, evidence, vocabulary, writing, and collaborative problem solving.
Lorri has been a National Board Certified Teacher and has a degree in English, a teaching credential, and a Master of Education. Her writing has appeared in outlets including the Los Angeles Times, HuffPost, Phi Delta Kappan, and College Board publications.
The Dewey archive also preserves television-development material written by Lorri, including a children’s-series treatment and a later screenplay adaptation. Those files expand Dewey’s world into scenes, episode structures, visual comedy, and character notes while remaining clearly identified as development history rather than a produced television series.
